Portable & Custom Milling

Portable milling is the distinguishing thing here — the saw travels, rather than the logs. The Forest Products Locator classifies the business as a sawmill handling both softwood and hardwood, and the NC Forest Service register lists it as a timber buyer working Randolph, Montgomery, Guilford and Alamance counties. Beyond those two entries there is very little on record: no website, no Facebook page, no reviews, no founding year, and a Locator listing last updated in May 2021. This is a small operation whose entire public footprint is an address and a phone number on two state registers.

Hurricane Fran put enough timber on the ground in 1996 that Roy Lynch went into the milling business the following year, and it has stayed owner-operated since — the company's site says Lynch handles the consultation and runs the equipment himself. The rig is a Wood-Mizer LT70 hydraulic portable sawmill with a 62-horsepower CAT engine, 25 feet long by 8 feet wide, taking logs up to 20 feet long and 36 inches in diameter. It goes to the log rather than the log coming to the mill, and it also dries lumber. Pricing is published rather than quoted: $130 an hour for milling plus a $40 blade-break fee, with more possible for long distances. The service area is North Raleigh, Wake Forest, Youngsville and Franklinton. The BBB gives it an A+ rating.
