About Appalachian Cooperage/taylor Stave

White oak off the mountains of western North Carolina goes into this McDowell County operation as logs and comes out as hand-graded staves and finished barrels for the craft spirits and wine trade. The company says its staves have gone into award-winning whiskey and bourbon in North Carolina and across the United States, and it sells Prime Wine grade staves both domestically and for export. The people behind it spent more than seven years at Brown-Forman managing several of that company's stave mills and the Jack Daniel cooperage before launching Taylor Stave in 2015. In 2026 the cooperage built six 30-gallon barrels from white oak felled by Hurricane Helene for the Echoes of the Forest public art project; the ale aged in them was tapped at Burial Beer Co.'s Forestry Camp in Asheville in April. Alongside standard barrels it makes 15-gallon charred and toasted white oak casks and personalised square barrels.

Also trades as Taylor Stave. Part of Taylor Stave, LLC.
