Domtar Paper Company, LLC — Plymouth Mill
About Domtar Paper Company, LLC — Plymouth Mill
Despite the company name, nothing at Plymouth becomes paper. The mill makes softwood fluff pulp - the absorbent fibre inside baby diapers and adult incontinence products - on a single fibre line rated at 390,000 air-dry metric tonnes a year, employing 351 people. It opened in 1937 under the North Carolina Pulp Co. Domtar says nearly all of the mill's energy now comes from renewable sources, and the site holds FSC, SFI, PEFC and ISO 9001 certification. One thing to check before hauling: a fire in the wood yard on 3 August 2025 spread from a chip conveyor to supporting structures, and Washington County Emergency Management announced the mill would take no roundwood the following day.
